“I cannot believe what this woman has had to endure from social media and the press,” the multiple Tony winner posted this weekend, alongside a video of herself while eight months pregnant. “Then today to read about how ‘weird’ her body language is by a supposed women’s magazine that supposedly prides itself on celebrating fierce, independent, strong women who can do anything and have it all?!? Do better.”
According to CNN, Kensington Palace staffers are cracking down on cyberbullies and blocking trolling Twitter and Instagram accounts.
McDonald, 48, explained that when she was eight months pregnant with her second child, she constantly touched her bump — something for which Markle has been criticized and teased.
“I touched my belly all the time because it was MY belly and it was MY baby(usually as active as this video) inside, had crazy emotions ranging from elation to depression to rage to uncontrollable fits of laughter,” she wrote. “I was a swollen, hot, sweaty, enormous, flatulent, in search of my feet, hot fudge sundae junkie, nervously excited, pudgy faced, waddling goddess.”
McDonald then took a moment to praise Prince Harry‘s wife for powering through the challenges of pregnancy under so much scrutiny.
“The thought of having to go through all of that plus having a million cameras in my face, bullied left right and center, and still be gracious, elegant, gorgeous, and full of purpose in front of the whole world is unimaginable,” she said. “Do better. Leave her alone.”
McDonald shares 2-year-old daughter Sally with her husband, fellow Broadway star Will Swenson. She also has an 18-year-old daughter, Zoe, from her previous marriage to Peter Donovan.
