Drew Barrymore isn’t afraid to talk about her troubled past and how it affects her presently.
“I have an extremely addictive personality,” Drew told Glamour UK. “I’ve never done heroin, and I don’t want to get plastic surgery because I feel like they’re both very slippery slopes.”
The 43-year-old Flower Beauty founder knows that both, while vastly different things, could destroy her.
“I feel if I try either,” she shared, “I’m going to be dead really soon.”
The “Santa Clarita Diet” star has been candid about her childhood drug use and rehab stays, turning to alcohol and smoking when she was just 9 years old. By the time she was 12, Barrymore was a cocaine addict. She was in and out of rehab in her early teenage years and was even institutionalized following a suicide attempt.
Barrymore became emancipated from her parents at age 14, though she maintains a relationship with her mom.
Now a mother of two girls, the “Never Been Kissed” star is grateful she never went down the celebrity-obsessed spiral of plastic surgery.
“We’ve gone far too far with the whole thing, especially when people who are so young are doing it,” Barrymore expressed. “I feel aging is a privilege. It’s about how to do it gracefully, with humor, self-love and a respect for the process, and that’s always been really important to me. Then I started having girls and I thought, thank god these were my initial instincts. Now I can carry them out in an even more deep and profound way.”
