Box office clashes are an unavoidable reality of Bollywood. On January 25, 2019, we have Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and Thackeray clashing at the box office. A few days back, the makers of Thackeray spoke about how they wanted a clear date for the film, which is based on the life of Balashaeb Thackeray. Today, Kangana Ranaut who plays the titular role and has partially directed the film said that no one approached them to change the date. Talking at the music launch of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Kangana said, “No one has told us to shift our release date and in fact, no one has approached us. It’s a big window and I think two films can easily release. There was no pressure.” Kangana’s film also stars Ankita Lokhande, Taher Shabbir and Danny Denzongpa.
Initially, even Emraan Hashmi’s Cheat India was supposed to release with these two films but now it is arriving a week earlier. Kangana said that two films could easily survive in that week and the window period for both was quite decent. She said no one approached her from the team of Thackeray. In Manikarnika, she plays Rani Laxmibai who put up a valiant fight against the British East India Company when they wanted to lay siege to Jhansi. It chronicles her life from Princess Manikarnika to Rani Laxmibai.
