Meghan Markle’s bodyguard quits after less than a year on the job`

Meghan Markle‘s desire to be close to her subjects may be driving her security detail away, according to a new report.

It has been challenging for the popular new royal’s bodyguards to accommodate her wish to be seen as “one of the people,” sources told The Daily Mail on Sunday — as it was reported that her chief protection officer is leaving her position after only about six months on the job.

“Unlike someone who has grown up in the Royal Family and has been used to having close protection from an early age, it can be constraining” for Meghan, a source said. “Even though [Meghan] was a famous actress, she could still do what she wanted in the way of getting around freely.

“But in her current role, she can’t go anywhere without her protection team, and that’s a massive constraining force on an individual like her.”

Her outgoing bodyguard, an unnamed Scotland Yard inspector, was the first woman to hold such a key role in keeping the British royals safe, according to the Sunday Times UK, which first reported on her departure.

When Prince Harry and Meghan visited Fiji in October, the bodyguard played an instrumental role in whisking the pregnant duchess away from a crowded market amid security concerns.

It’s believed that the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection branch will try to find another woman to fill in for the departing inspector.

The resignation follows the departure of Meghan’s personal assistant, Melissa Touabti. Harry and Meghan’s private secretary, Samantha Cohen is also expected to leave later this year.
