Meghan McCain says husband helped her through father’s cancer

In sickness and in health.

Meghan McCain opened up about her husband’s, Ben Domenech’s, unwavering support throughout her father’s cancer battle on Thursday’s episode of “The View” while the panel was discussing people who marry for money.

“I dated everything,” McCain shared. “Every kind of person possible. I dated extremely wealthy men, famous men, poor guys, everything in between — and I married for love, honestly.”

“Everything else will work itself out. I married for love, and my husband carried me through my dad’s cancer,” she explained of Sen. John McCain’s glioblastoma diagnosis, “and if I had married a jackass that made the most money ever, that was the wealthiest dude I dated, no way I would have survived last year. I’m just saying, marry for love. As cheesy as that sounds!”

McCain and Domenech tied the knot in November 2017 in a gorgeous ceremony at the McCain family ranch in Sedona, Arizona, just four months after her father was diagnosed with cancer.

“The View” co-host later said she and Domenech got engaged at the Mayo Clinic, where her father was having a scan, “because we decided to sort of celebrate life and celebrate being alive and all these things.”

McCain passed away in August 2018 at age 81.
