Everything about Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas‘s December wedding was grand and great. From the guest list to the decor, from the bride and groom’s outfits to the pre-wedding festivities and the wedding pictures, we loved everything about it. In fact, we are glad that every picture from their weddings (they had two, remember?!) hit the internet and it was as dreamy as it could get. Now, we have found out what her kalire were all about and it’s super cute. But before that, let us tell you what are kalire in the first place. These are the dangling accessories that every bride wears on her wrists on the day of her wedding. Post the rituals, she has to partake in a ceremony where she has to rub her wrists in such a way that they fall on an unmarried young girl from the group of girl standing in front of the bride. The ceremony is called breaking of the kalire. The girl who gets bestowed upon by these gold danglers is believed to be the next in line to get married. Hopeful Indians, you see!
Anyway, coming back to Priyanka, we still don’t know who her kalire fell on but we surely know what all they were constituted of. Vogue reports that the kalire were custom-made by accessories designer Mrinalini Chandra and each hanging had a monumental significance. The magazine reveals that “Nick Jonas had once played the part of Mr Chip Potts in a Broadway production of Beauty & The Beast, and sure enough, one of the hangings featured the character. An engraved silhouette from one of the couple’s most liked Instagram posts, the steps of the MET, the Parthenon, cupid himself, and several signs symbolic of Hindu and Christian faiths were spotted in the bride’s unique kalire.”
