Filmmaker Rohit Shetty is riding high on the success of Simmba. The film is all set to enter into the 200 crore club in India. It has beaten Baaghi 2 and Race 3 at the box office. It is also the eighth 100-crore plus film for Rohit Shetty making him the only filmmaker to achieve that feat. While Simmba is equivalent to Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty, the director says that leading ladies and the ensemble cast have also played a huge role in his films. In an interview to Anupama Chopra’s Film Companion, he said, “For me, Chennai Express wasn’t a Shah Rukh Khan Film, people forget that. For me again, Golmaal 3 wasn’t a Ajay Devgn film, it was a Kareena Kapoor, Ratna Pathak Shah and Mithun Chakraborty film. That’s how we write. Because it’s a commercial film, people don’t go into that theory.” In Chennai Express, Deepika played the part of Meenamma and critics were extremely impressed by her comic timing.
Rohit Shetty’s films have always had a fabulous supporting cast, which do brilliantly. However, they don’t get talked about much. Rohit further told Anupama, “With Golmaal 3, I never thought that it was Ajay Devgn’s solo film, it was Kareena, Ratna and Mithun’s film. Same way, Chennai Express was a Deepika Padukone’s film. She got the maximum credit also.” Deepika had swept all the awards that year for Chennai Express. The filmmaker is now working on the next instalment of Golmaal along with his upcoming project with Akshay Kumar, Sooryavanshi. Stay tuned to BL for more updates!
