Swift’s new Elle UK cover was unveiled on Thursday, marking her first magazine appearance in nearly a year and featuring a personal essay written by the star on the power of pop music. The “Style” songstress, 29, fronts the April issue of the British glossy in a dramatic yellow dress by Gucci featuring a V-neckline, bold ruffles and bow-tied sleeves.
The very same day, 26-year-old Kloss closed the Off-White fall 2019 fashion show in Paris, hitting the catwalk in a vibrant canary-colored gown with tied-up straps and a flowing train so long, it required an entire team to carry backstage.
A number of fans quickly picked up on the two looks’ similarities. “The Karlie Kloss – Taylor Swift crowd must be pretty excited since both have been featured in yellow dresses in the past week. [I’m here for all the theories],” one person tweeted. “Just a coincidence. Right,” another wrote on Tumblr alongside a photo composite of the pair.
One Tumblr user even went so far as to Photoshop Kloss onto the magazine alongside the Swift, with the cover line “Power Couple.”
Swifties have been speculating that the pop star is planning to release new music in the coming days; in addition to posing for a rare magazine cover, Swift has been unusually active on Instagram over the past week, sharing what many believe to be hints at her new musical era’s aesthetic. Last Saturday, she even made a surprise appearance at a superfan’s engagement party.
Last year, some fans believed that Kloss and Swift’s friendship was on the rocks, but the supermodel supported the singer at her “Reputation” tour stop in Nashville back in August. And while Swift wasn’t in attendance at Kloss’ intimate wedding to Josh Kushner in October, she was part of the bride-to-be’s bachelorette party.
“Taylor and I are still really good friends,” Kloss confirmed during her “73 Questions” video shoot for Vogue in October.
