Amid buzz that one of the characters on Hulu’s new show “Shrill” is based on writer Lindy West’s former editor Dan Savage, West says there’s no bad blood between them.

West and Savage’s contentious relationship came to a head in 2011 when they were working together at local Seattle blog The Stranger. She wrote a post titled “Hello, I am Fat,” which called out Savage for shaming overweight people in his articles. Savage then responded in a post of his own titled, “Hello, I’m not the Enemy.”

“Dan and I patched it up immediately and so there’s no conflict, but it’s funny that I’m answering questions about it,” West told Page Six at the “Shrill” premiere on Wednesday. “I was feeling really nervous because I hadn’t talked to him about the show when I knew people were going to be asking about it and assuming that the character is him.”

But then fate intervened and West and Savage ended up on the same plane to SXSW earlier this month.

“We actually had this really lovely talk and he was really supportive and really excited about the show and he laughed about how we’re supposed to be in a fight,” she explained. “We almost took a selfie to prove to the world that we’re not, but then we both looked like garbage so we decided not to.”

While some plot lines in the Aidy Bryant show come from West’s real life, the “Shrill: Notes from a Loud Woman” author has been adamant in recent interviews that the character of Gabe is not based on her former boss.

John Cameron Mitchell, who plays Gabe on the show, even said he didn’t do any research on Savage for the role.

“I purposely didn’t read those sections in [Lindy West’s] book because I didn’t want to be influenced by that,” Mitchell told Page Six.

He added, “My version for the character is: He was big in the ’90s in the Portland alternative rock & roll scene, maybe had a little label, bemoans the ADD state of the world now and sees his own business collapsing as the Village Voice did. He acts all punk, but he’s a bit, ‘question authority but don’t question me.’ So it’s a fun, punk rock dictator.”

“Shrill” is currently streaming on Hulu.
